How to Choose the Right Moisturizer

How much do you know about your moisturizer? There are literally hundreds of moisturizers on the market, and all of them claim to be special, but how do you know which one to choose? There's no doubt about the fact that you need to moisturize your skin in order to keep it looking young and healthy...though choosing the right moisturizer is a different story altogether.

gold 's Inside?
Most moisturizers contain humectants. Humectants actually take water from the dermis and leave that water in the epidermis. Sometimes, humectants can also take water from the atmosphere. In many ways, humectants are natural moisturizers.

Some moisturizers also contain petroleum. Petroleum will create a desired texture within a moisturizer. Often, petroleum is the number one reason why a moisturizer doesn't have a greasy feel. Of course, there are numerous debates as to whether or not petroleum is actually good for your skin.

How to Choose
There's no easy way to choose a great moisturizer. You simply have to read the ingredient list, do a lot of homework, and then think about what you intend to put on your face. While most of us really don't consider the facial products that we use, we really should be paying more attention to these items.

Think of it this way - would you eat a food that you know causes cancer? Your answer to this question is probably a resounding "no!" So, then why would you even consider using a skincare product that contains harmful ingredients? While we place a lot of importance upon the foods that we eat, most of us never even think about the skincare products that we use.

A Hypocritical Culture
Our Western world is so caught up in losing weight, eating the right foods, and taking care of the environment, that we don't take the time to think about our skin. The average person will go out of their way to purchase low calorie, low fat, local, foods, but they won't spend extra money on decent skincare products.

News flash - your skin absorbs anything that you slather onto it. Thus, you can eat all the healthy food that you want to, but if you are rubbing a ton of chemicals into your skin on a daily basis, then you can expect your skin to suffer.

Skin Is Always In
You should always take care of your skin. Sure, some of those organic skincare products are costly, but isn't that cost worth it when it comes to your health? Various ingredients that are often included inside of moisturizers are really very bad for your skin. Still, we keep using them.

Stop polluting your skin with toxic chemicals. Instead, start purchasing skincare products that are made from natural ingredients. You can be sure that organic products won't harm your skin, they won't cause illness, and they won't make your skin age faster.

Awareness
The first step towards taking care of your skin is being aware of certain ingredients. The more you learn and research about these ingredients, the better off you will be. Eventually, you will be able to glance at a skincare product, and know whether or not that product will harm your skin.

If you are in doubt about any type of skincare product, make sure to contact the manufacturer. Those manufacturers that stand behind their products will be more than happy to explain all of their added ingredients.
